An Interesting Topic!!
I think as teachers ,we have to know how to use the timed conversation in order to help our students to develop and practise speaking , specially in large class.
Timed Conversation involves continually developing native like fluency and providing frequent opportunities for students to maintain mostly English conversation. Teacher gradually increase their length to coincide with the students´ability and desire to communicate for longer periods over the school year and the real learning. In addition, teachers should provide opportunities for using the language and skills within the activity in many different ways to mantain interest and variety.
Objectives in teaching timed conversation:
- Students will be able to maintain a conversation for a set period of time :starting with couples of minutes and increasing to more minutes by the end of the year, students will improve the fluency.
- Students will be able to appropriately use new conversational expressions in order to facilitate longer interactions and increase their conversational competences.
- Teachers should use mostly topics to call the attention to the students in order to increase their involment and interes in speaking English.

Eduardo, I think we as teachers have to look for strategies that help students speak English, moreover to create a nice environment in the classroom, I mean if someone makes a mistake we don´t have to laugh about it, because that´s the problem, specially in public schools, students don´t like to talk, even try, because they are afraid if they make a mistake all people will laugh.
