“Ofensiva hasta el tope”

On November eleventh, 1989; the Frente Farabundo Martí General Comandancy had baptized that day like “Ofensiva hasta el tope”. In that day the guerrilla had arrived to the city, the bullets surprised the urban inhabitants in the capital and different places of El Salvador. They didn’t image the combat among the guerrilla and the army. The guerrilla left the hills to go to the city. Rifles and bombs were what they carried with them. They and the army marked that day with blood and fire. People lost basic service like water, electricity or telephone service, but what they experienced will never disappear.

Some characters that participated in the conflict think about that day like the key to end the conflict; however the results that this terrible battle caused like slaughters and damages in the infrastructure will always be in the mind of the ones that suffered this unnecessary war. Nobody won the fight and it was considered like a tie, they got even. Twenty years has passed when the guerrilla offensive happened, two thousand people died in that period of time and the twelve years that lasted the war, seventy five thousand people died. Sadness is what this month involves for many people.

I am in agreement with Norberto, this is a bad part of our country´s hystory, anyway the War already finished, but memories about it are still alive in people´s mind.

I couldn't agree more with you guys. I think that no war is justifiable. There are many who say that the war was "necessary", but the question is: was it really necessary? When you look back in time and you see the amount of people that lost a dear friend,a relative and even part of their body, it makes you wonder if it was worth it; not to mention, the great number of children that lost their childhood due to the trauma of losing a parent, sister, etc.

I agree on everything you think , more when it says: "Sadness is what this month involves for many people".
Personally, I remember that they perfectly, I was nine years old, many houses were fired with tommy guns and a lot of innocent people died, many families had to abandon their homes and run to save their lives for weeks. Parents had to protect their children of being recruited by military or by the guerrilla, some of which were recruited are alive, but they can´t overpass all the traumas that the war has left. It´s hard to remember , but it´s necesary to show to the new generetions the consequences of a war trying to avoid that this could happen again.
